Desert Flower
In April, 2002, I took a trip to assist in collection the pubis of an adult Alamosaurus in the Desert. This was the second time I had visited this place and also the 2nd time I got to be in the rain. It's not supposed to rain in the desert! Stranger still, I went back in July and got to experience thunderstorms again. The nice thing about the rain is getting to see the exotic fruits and flowers of the desert plants. Don't even ask what this is.
This is the plastered pubis of a medium to large Alamosaurs. This bone weigh some 350+ pounds and had to be carried (no wheels in the environmentally sensitive area) about 3 miles across the desert to the nearest road.

Me holding a juvenile Alamosaurus femur fragment
What I am holding here is the end of a femur of a juvenile Alamosaurus from the javelina formation. Pretty cool to have a 65 million year old piece of history in your hands!
This is the team that moved the pubis out of the desert. There was an additional support team, carrying water, snacks, cameras, computers and other tools. This was a terribly long hike carrying a very heavy load through cactus fields, mud, ravines and rivulets. Beer-thirty came quickly, and all but Trevor were up for a big drunk at the end of the day! I was soooo sore for days after this trek.

Steamboat Springs
One of the most important events in a child's life is Phishing and though this is not even close to his first Phish, this is Seth's Phirst Fish. Confused? So were they. The fish thought he was eating but was instead eaten. Seth didn't realize you had to kill a fish to eat it and worse yet, "fish is meat!" The only meat Seth will eat is an occasional hot dog or chicken nugget. He cried and would have no fish. I cried cause I got no Phish, but I ate well this day. . .Give a man a fish and he will eat today. Teach a boy to Phish and he will groove for a lifetime (unless he's crying about a dead fish. . .)
This was Seth's first snow experience. When a kid loves to throw rocks, he will really really really really love to throw snowballs!
I don't care who you are - an occasional snow experience is VERY cool.
I guess this picture speaks for itself.
This photo was taken before he realized that you have to kill a fish to eat it. He was the proud possessor of the fish. He was valiantly guarding is catch. He was afraid it might be able to open the cooler and get away even though is was floating in ice water.
Gotta throw snowballs! We were at Milner Pass in Rocky Mountain National Park. Hard to believe 5 feet of snow a week before Memorial Day!
Looong ride home from Colorado to Texas. But this was a good boy.

Here are some pictures from our 1997 Phish Trip:

Seth at Shoreline Ampitheatre We had 10th row seats at Shoreline Amphitheater.  Seth was wonderful.  He didn't fidget~ he just danced and clapped his hands.  This picture was taken by someone we don't know who didn't give us his name or address -- THANKS!
Smiling at Ecola Beach, Oregon Here is the family at Ecola Beach in Oregon.  After growing up near the Gulf Coast, the Pacific is quite a shock!  MAN, that water's cold!
Waiting for Phish at the Gorge. Here we are at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, WA.  This place was phenomonal.  The sky seemed so blue and the stars were huge.  If you ever get a chance to see a show (any show) at this venue, do it.
Just after the first set started. Unfortunately, with a small child, we didn't get too close to the stage at either of these shows - the hill was too steep.  Notice that there is no stage back drop - just the Columbia River Gorge.  The sun set off to our left and left us with nothing but stars.
